Book Nerd Problems #18 | Reader Problems

Hello folks! This is Hira bringing you this week's Book Nerd!
How is the weekend treating you? You know me...I have been sleeping it away like usual.

Anyway, this is week's book nerd made me smile because it does really happen...right? Take a look.

Okay, confession. I had this huge crush on Draco Malfoy for the longest time.  How many of you had waited to find your own real life Mr Darcy? I am sure many of us had an unhealthy obsession with a certain Edward Cullen which we are a bit embarrassed to say out now, lol. Don't worry guys, you are not alone..many a times, fictional people are much better than real ones...they will always be there for you (there, I have spoken like the proper spinster, that I am.)

Anyways, tell us all about your fictional loves...I would love to hear all about it!

#Junkie - Gear Shark Series #Review Friday

Hello Folks, this is me Hira and I have with me a new book with me for this week's #reviewfriday!

I know that many of you guys have been waiting excitedly for a new gay romance after Inia's review of Escapede and I might just have something you would like.

Title: #Junkie
Author: Cambria Hebert
Genre: MM romance

Gearshark series is a spin off from Cambria's  Hastag series and Junkie is the first book from it. I am sure a lot you guys must be familiar with Hashtag series. But  don't worry if you are not, the story can be read as separate...I myself read Hashtag series only after I finished this one.

Before I talk about the book, as usual let me explain how I came across it. One word-Zoe. I was lounging at her place, talking random stuff and then suddenly she pulls out this cover. At first I couldn't believe it was a book cover (she was showing me the kindle version). The cover looked so good and I felt that it was so innovative. Notice how the title GS kinda resembles GQ? I think this one deserves a place in cover love, right guys?

Anyway back to my story, I was fascinated by the cover. But not fascinated enough to actually read it- I was swamped with work and had a huge list of books to finish off. But then she bursts it to me that it was an MM romance. I was further intrigued but still vary because I didn't often like the way gay romances were portrayed in mainstream books. But my decision changed the moment she revealed that it was a college frat boy romance. It had been exactly what I had been in the mood for. So I put aside my work and decided to lose myself in this one (I regretted that later but still it was so worth it.)

Drew Forrester is an Indie car racer about to make it big in the racing world. He lives for the adrenaline, the head rush of a race. His veins are filled with oil not blood.  Trent Mask is the president of  Alpha Omega, and Drew's best friend. But is that all he is? The story starts with them as best friends but soon it becomes evident that both of them want something more, but the world around them might not be the  most accepting one.
Trent lived with his brothers in the frat house, to admit that he is gay even to himself takes him the longest time. And then the other dilemma, the only man he had ever loved, could Drew ever return his feelings? Things get even more complicated as the sexy daughter of Drew's new sponsor arrives on the scene. Trent knows she is everything Drew likes...or is she?

To be honest I read the story expecting a lot of angst and turmoil, but found it overall very chill. Neither Trent nor Drew have the stereotypical gay image- with one being a Footballer and Frat President and the other being the fastest racer on the Indie track.

At some portions, I found the story dragging because the author was overcompensating with explanations. I also felt there was also an information dump at some points. But that said, this is Ms Hebret's first MM romance and Zoe tells me that she has never read nor written anything of this genre prior to #Junkie.  If that't true then kudos to her, because while it might not be the best MM romance I have read, it still managed to create an impact on me. The author managed to make me invested in the story of Trent and Drew.

I think this is the perfect kind of book to pass time during a long journey, or when you are jobless or when you have job but wants to procrastinate (the last one is me). Also warning- #Junkie is not a standalone. It's second and third parts are also out, so you won't have to worry of cliffhangers.

Rating:  3/5

I hope you have fun reading it...tell me about it after you have finished. Also, have a great weekend folks...I know I am gonna sleep my way through mine :P

Book Nerd Problem #16 | Reader Problems

Hi guys...this comes later than usual. I am so sorry. I have been so busy with one deadline after the other. Seriously, I feel like a zombie. But that was no excuse for being late. It won't happen again, I promise.

So here it is, this week's Book Nerd Problem. Guess who inspired this one? Guess, guess!

Book nerd problems | reader problems #16

You guessed it right, its none other than our beloved Zoe. The girl seriously has no self control when it comes to books. She filled out an entire shelf in a month and she still keeps buying. She checks Amazon the way some of us checks Facebook or Tumblr. But to be fair, her collection is amazing. You guys should definitely check out her instagram. Her bookstagrams  Are. The. Best.

Anyways, that's it for this week's book nerd. Tell us if you are also like Zoe...We always want to hear more book crazy people.

Cover Love #17

And it's time for another Cover Love. This is Hira again! I hope you are not getting tired of me...I just love this feature a lot. Also today Inia is gonna be joining me here (bet you missed her sarcasm, huh?) and we are gonna do what we do best-- judge the book by its cover.

Cover Love #17/ Cover Lust

Let's start, shall we?

The Bees by Laline Paull | Cover Love
The Bees by Laline Paull

Hira: Objectively this is a nice enough cover. I can't find much fault with it. The black, yellow and white looks good together. But I don't like it. It doesn't have anything which draws me in. It's too dull, I guess.

Inia: I love the simple elegance of this cover. Look at the pretty teal floral design meshing beautifully with the black background! Look at that yellow ocher scattered honeycomb! So pretty. And combined with that font, the book has such a pleasant vintage feel to it. I'm in love.

WildWood by Colin Meloy and Carson Ellis | cover love
WildWood by Colin Meloy and Carson Ellis

Hira: Again, this one also looks a bit too dull for me. Maybe the right word is abstract. I can't even make a wild guess about the book's genre and that throws me off, I see the Harry Potter like guy at the top, some animals, a lot of trees. What is going on? This is definitely not something I would spare a second glance to at a bookshop.

Inia: This book doesn't attract me enough to want to read it but I would probably buy it for the aesthetics. It's a complex cover with a lot of elements and the colour palette is such soothing mix of blue, white and soft brown shades. Again this book too has a vintage feel to it and reminds me of my childhood bedtime storybooks.

The Black Key by Amy Ewing | cover love
The Black Key by Amy Ewing

Hira: You guys know by now that I am not the biggest fan of fantasy. But I freaking love this cover. She looks like an ice princess- cold hearted and mean, a total badass. I love the font, the details in the background...everything. Quite a good cover.

Inia: Meh. Pretty enough, I guess but I have seen a million covers which look similar to this. I need something more that a pretty girl in a frilly gown to attract me to a cover. The colours are quite nice  albeit a bit dull.

Burned Deep by Calista Fox | cover love
Burned Deep by Calista Fox

Hira: The combination of red and black- my kryptonite. No need to elaborate, right. Also, it seems I have a thing for flowers these days. I was browsing covers for this section and I swear every cover I was drawn to had a flower or a heart on it. What does that even mean?
Anyway, that flower is captivating. Its too gorgeous. I might just read this one for the cover.

Inia: That's one fiery looking flower! It looks amazing against the plain background. I just wish that font had been a swirly, curly one and not this boring comic sans imposter. The fiery flower deserves better. I think if the font had been different, this would have been a really catchy cover.

A Sprig of Blossomed Thorn by Patrice Greenwood |cover love
A Sprig of Blossomed Thorn by Patrice Greenwood

Hira: This has the look of a proper British novel which you actually read out with a proper British accent (Jordan's words, not mine.) You gotta admit that it looks all prim and proper. It's a cozy cover. Something which you will read while sipping your evening tea on the verandah of your Indian-themed mansion.

Inia: This cover is so...Victorian. Look at the handle of the dainty little teacup that only a pinkie finger would fit through and those tiny little spoons that would probably break in any hands other than a prim and proper Victorian lady's. That perfect little rose completes the setting. The book looks so inviting and I just want to curl up on my bed on a rainy day and read this.

Closed Casket by Agatha Christie | cover love
Closed Casket by Agatha Christie

Hira: Red and black again. God why am I such a sucker for this combo? It's too clique . This is a very simple yet eye catching cover. Look at the detail on the key. I bet it is important. And it's Agatha Christie, so it's obviously a mystery. Also I have always loved the author's font for Christie's novels. So double points.

Inia: Ahh yes the generic Agatha Christie mystery novel  cover. It's intriguing, it gives absolutely nothing away and mystery fans like me are a sucker for these types of cover.

The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black | cover love
The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black

Hira: I love the name of the book. But I wish it was a more real looking hand. I am not a fan of illustrations. The font of the title is quite cool. But somehow it seems to be young adult...maybe?

Inia: Is it just me or does anybody else see those creepy faces in the background? Please tell me you do. I'm not a fan of this cover either way.

Ignite Me by Tahereh Mafi | cover love
Ignite Me by Tahereh Mafi

Hira: Pretty! Inia...look at this. We were fawning over pretty pictures of eyes just last night and look what appeared here. Did Zoe read our minds when she picked the covers or what? This cover is just too pretty. The blue iris, and all those colours around it, the lashes shaped to look like flowers...very very interesting and I would say unique. And the title..I love the title. So good. Definitely gonna check this one out.

Inia: Damn! This is gorgeous! I actually gasped when I saw this cover; it is that striking. I agree with everything Hira said about this cover. Definitely gonna check it out.

Hira: My favorite of the week was Ignite Me. Inia what about you?
Inia: Mine is a tie between The Bees and Ignite Me.

That's it for this week's Cover Love, folks! Which was your fav covers? Comment below.

Cover Love #16 International Version

Hello folks! Did you miss us last week? We are terribly sorry for the small hiatus but we had no other choice. Jordan was seriously sick (send her good vibes, she has been miserable), Inia was running rampant with her exams and work was kicking mine and Zoe's arses. I still can't believe we all survived last week. Personally, I would say all credit to coffee...it saved me from permanent lunacy.

Anyway, we are back and hopefully there will be no more hiatuses anywhere in the near future. And guess what, this week's cover love is special!
IT IS THE INTERNATIONAL COVER WEEK!

Basically, we are going to have covers of books of international authors. Usually the large majority of our book covers are from US Publishers so we decided to switch things up a little bit. And I am so proud to be master brain behind this brilliant idea (I am modest like that). I hope you guys enjoy!

The Immortals of Meluha by Amish Tripathi | Cover Love
The Immortals of Meluha by Amish Tripathi

India

Hira: I should start by saying what a huge success this book was. You think Greek mythology is cool? Wait till you have dabbled into the Indian stories. I seriously became addicted to this stuff after reading this book.
Okay, I should talk about the book cover here. Maybe I will do a book review of this one and fan girl there...tell me if you guys want it.
So, the whole reason I picked the book was the cover. It looked like a fantasy cover but there was something really edgy about this one. The colour palate for one was very very intriguing.  The man with the dreadlocks and numerous scars, the deadly looking trident right behind his spine, the inscriptions at the top...I was captivated by this cover. And let me tell you, this was a book I finished in one go. You just can't put it down.

Zoella: I have nothing much to add to what Hira has said. I like how all the individual elements come together and how everything is centred. This is the kind of cover that captures your attention even in an aisle of overflowing books.

The teleportation Accident by Ned Beauman | Cover Love
The teleportation Accident by Ned Beauman

UK
Hira: Very innovative, isn't it. The cover looks like loose sheets. I loved this one at first glance but for some reason it feels weird after staring at it for a few seconds. Also it's a bit difficult to read the title. I love over all colour usage, the red, the black, the yellow. It's a nice cover which makes my eyes wobbly after a few seconds.

Zoella: Oooh I love the 3-D effect of this cover. The cover looks very classy. Even the font is getting cut by the panels of red. This cover has a lot going on and even though this looks like a book I won't pick up, I am a sucker for this cover.

L.I.E.B.E hoch drei by Vanessa Mansini | Cover love
L.I.E.B.E hoch drei by Vanessa Mansini

GERMAN

Hira: This is not a Hira-ish cover but I feel this is really a Jordan-ish cover. Seriously she might love it. I won't be surprised if it was she who picked this one. The cover idea is cute I guess, but I have never been a fan of Barbie pink. I like how authentic the chalk marks look.

Zoella: I don't think Jordan will like it. She tends to gravitate towards pastel colours. I picked the cover because the cover managed to use a colour stereotyped as feminine and girly into something edgy without losing sexiness. Is Roman ( the name in one of the columns) the hero or something?
I don't like that because it's just written normally while the other graphics looks like it has been drawn with chalk.

The Twisted Citadel by Sara Douglass | cover love
The Twisted Citadel by Sara Douglass

AUSTRALIAN

Hira: Now this is a Zoella Rose cover if there was one. You love this, don't you Zoe?  I personally am very curious about the bubble head like things at the bottom of the cover. It's not rocks...is it helmets? I like the colour palate and the font, but it's too fantasy-ish (I am using a lot of -ish today)

Zoella: LOL. There is so much action going on in the cover, the fairy, the huntsman, the mystic riders. This one looks like an fantasy of epic size. And yes, those are helmets. But one thing I hate about the over is the title font. It's too congested. There should've been more space between the letters.

All that remains by Lauren Dane | cover love
All that remains by Lauren Dane
US

Hira: This one I love. The font, the colour palate, the girl, everything. Also love the tagline...(my inner romantic swoons) The designs at the bottom are a bit out of place but it doesn't bother me much.

Zoella: This is a really cool cover and I like those two little flourishes on the bottom. I'm not sure whether it's contemporary because the series name suggests otherwise. But, all in all this is a pretty eye-catching cover.

Unwanted by Kristina Ohlsson | cover love
Unwanted by Kristina Ohlsson

SWEDEN

Hira: Very dark. That's the phrase for this cover and I love it! I have this explainable draw towards  creepy, sad books and this feeds my inner masochist. I want to read this. I want to at least check out the blurb. See the blood inside the shoe? I want to know what this book is all about!

Zoella: Add it to your TBR list Hira because I have a feeling you might like this one. For me the most intriguing part about this cover is the white light around the shoe. to me it looks like a puppy. I'm not sure whether it was intended or not, but I like how it adds another layer of smbolism to th cover. And the bllod on the shoes is the right touch to guide the reader as to what genre this is.

The Seventh Child by Erik Vallor | cover love
The Seventh Child by Erik Vallor

DENMARK

Hira: Interesting name and cover. The cradles with each alphabet corresponding to it, very innovative. It intrigues me...which means its a good cover in my eyes. But I am not a fan of the overall style of the cover. It's eye catching but somehow not in a good way.

Zoella: I love solving puzzles and this cover makes me want to solve it. Since, I concentrate mainly fantasy I don't come across many covers that play with the title like this. It's a refresshing change. This looks like a dark and intriging story. I m going to read this.

Throne of the crescent moon by Saladin Ahmed | cover love
Throne of the crescent moon by Saladin Ahmed

Author is Arab-American

Hira: It's a childish cover and I have never been into illustrations. So I am not gonna say much here, since I can't find anything to say.

Zoella: I love this cover. Everything from the font, colours, the burning skeleton, the crescent moon to the fog hidden palaces. This one looks epic.I love the long haired guy, he looks crazy scary. I'm fangirling over this cover so much now. But, one thing I would wih to change is the old wizard because he is the current focal point of the cover. I want it to the fighters. But, other than that no complaints

Hira: My favorites this week have to be The Immortals of Meluha and Unwanted.

Zoella: For me, it's hands down Throne of the Crescent Moon.

Which one was your fav cover. Coment below. And has anyone read Magic Binds or Crooked Kingdom yet? I'm going to start on Crooked Kingdom after I finish fangirling over how good Magic Binds was.

Book Nerd Problems #13 | Reader Problems

And it's that time of the week again. How are my fellow Book Nerds faring these days? This week's problem is very very relatable, huh? Any Game of Thrones fans around? You guys would know this issue best I guess.

Seriously, being patient is not an easy task at all. Zoe has practically gone crazy because her favorite author postponed the release date of a sequel. Has this happened to any of you...let me know, I love hearing these stuff.

Anyway, good news, George R R Martin has promised that Winds of Winter will release before Season 7.  So things might be looking up for you GoT fans at least.

Also if you have any problems like this and would like to have it featured in here....shoot us a message. Till we meet again, Adios!

Scarlett- A Gone with the Wind Sequel | A Review | #reviewfriday

                                “TOMORROW IS ANOTHER DAY.”

I remember sitting shocked as one of the best reads of my life ended like this. Never in a million years did I expect Margaret Mitchell to end the novel at such a cliffhanger. I was literally left gaping at the back cover of Gone with the Wind as Rhett left Scarlet.

In an interview with Yank magazine, Mitchell later said that she had no clue of what happens after that. She quoted, "For all I know, Rhett may have found someone else who was less—difficult.” That messed me up even more. I couldn't imagine such an ending and was very very pissed, thus began my journey in search of a good sequel. I remember the hours spent surfing through fanfiction sites to no avail...and then came my hero.

Super Dad to the rescue. He found me not one but two sequels!

The first one called Scarlett, was written by Alexandra Ripley and was more widely accepted and truth be told I found it a much better and believable sequel than the other one- Rhett Butler's People.

Book: Scarlett
Author: Alexandra Ripley
Genre: History, Romance Novel.

While the book noway near matches the original brilliance of Gone with the Wind, I very much felt that it was an brilliant attempt. The story starts off from where the first book ended and takes us back to Tara along with Scarlett. In the sequel, much of the story is told from Scarlett's point of view which goes a long way in making her a more likable character.

While old settings like Tara, Atlanta etc are revisited, Ripley also brings in a lot of new places and settings. Rhett's hometown of Charleston is brought to life as Scarlett chases after her lost husband in true Scarlett fashion. The novel also gives you a peek into Rhett's family and past life, something which Mitchell just glossed over in Gone with the Wind. Savannah is another place which comes to life under Ripley's pen-as Scarlett visits her mother's family there. New characters are introduced, new plot lines develop, romantic rivals for both Rhett and Scarlett emerge, unprecedented situations, unexpected friendships, misunderstandings and misgivings, the novel brings it all to the table.

*Spoilers Ahead*

With the new plot lines and characters, the novel also brings in much needed closure for characters like Ashley, Wade, Ella and even India. The book also introduces Scarelett as well as the readers to the Irish side of her family. She meets her great multitude of cousins in Savannah and learns more about her father's ancestry and heritage, ultimately she decides to visit Ireland to see her father's land.

The one thing I absolutely loved about the novel was 'Cat'. While I had found the character of Bonnie too selfish and self-centered (Like mother, like daughter), Cat was a combination of the best parts of Rhett and Scarlett. Also it is Cat that makes Scarlett grow up and makes her see the world with different eyes. Of all her kids, Cat's the only one who pulls out all the maternal instincts in Scarlett.

The other major new character that is introduced is Fenton, (or I should say Lord Fenton.), an arrogant man whom at first reminds Scarlett of Rhett. Fenton soon becomes so enraptured with Cat and proposes marriage to Scarlett to have offspring's of the same caliber. While he is obviously a bigger cad than Rhett, I had almost wished for the marriage to happen because if anyone could take down Fenton a notch, it was Scarlett. Also I genuinely enjoyed the dynamic between him and Cat and somehow felt that he would have made her a good father. By then Rhett was already married and expecting a child so I had pretty much given up on a happy ending- so don't blame me for wanting Cat to have a great Dad.

While the beginning and the ending are both gripping, the novel fails to retain the reader's interest through the middle parts of the story. Scarlett's stint in Ireland is largely uninteresting. The novel is written though the course of almost five years, so a lot of things happen and at many times, the reader is pretty much left with a sense of hopelessness since the conflicts seem too un-resolvable. Rhett got remarried- I almost gave up right there (Glad I didn't though).

*Spoiler Ends*

I wouldn't say Scarlett is a perfect sequel, but it was good enough to give me the closure which I desperately needed. While the book did not receive much critical appreciation, it was certainly a commercial best seller and I can certainly see why it was so. If we do a comparison, Scarlett is eons ahead of Rhett Butler's People- which I can only describe as 'confusing' at best. Maybe I will talk about it some other time. But right now, for all the Gone with the Wind lovers, I would recommend Scarlett as a must read. It truly manages to hold onto the beauty of the old world which Mitchell created without losing the complex layers which made the prequel an evergreen novel.

Rating: 4/5

Cover Love #15

And it's time for another Cover Love. Time certainly flies doesn't it? The girls and I  had a very very unproductive week (It's raining buckets here and all us went into hibernation...waking only to eat and read.) And even now I am huddled inside my comforter with a  cup of coffee...this is bliss.

Anyway, to the topic at hand Cover Love #15. This week's covers are brought to you by photo-shop extraordinaire Zoella Rose, the Queen of grammar rules Jordan Carat, and of course the very enchanting, future New York Times Best Selling Author (wait for it) Hira Summers!

Jordan: The fonts are amazing. I like the colour palette here. I even like the random fire at the back. However, the elements on the cover don't seem to tie up together. It's a disappointment.

Hira: I like the colour palette and the font. But something seems off. It feels like a poor attempt at photo shop. Especially the man's position and all,

From the Ashes by C.J Archer | cover love

Jordan: I've got one word for this - no. Random girl with her boobs pushed up till her chin is sure to grab some attention. As sinister looking this cover wants to be, it falls short while presenting an overall image that just seems off. Kudos for the title font, though.

Hira: Usually I am all for the slytherin green but here it just doesn't look good. I liked the details of the cemetery behind the girl. Seems like this is a book with some supernatural ghost stuff in it. Not my type.

Love in the time of Global Warming by Francesca Lia Block | cover love

Jordan: While I feels I should like this cover, I don't. Maybe it's the colour theme used here, or it's that generic butterfly. I can't even appreciate the tiny details, either.

Hira: I love this one. The name is damn catchy, (Book lovers would catch the reference *Gabriel Garza Marquez- Love in the time of Cholera) but what attracted me to this cover was the butterflies and the small details at the bottom (*gives Jordan the evil eye.) This is a book that I might actually buy to pass time while on a flight or train.

All our pretty songs by Sarah McCarry | cover love

Jordan:  I like the way the pretty vines coil around the title. What I don't like is the colour of it, and of the author's name. This could have been one of those timeless, elegant covers for me, but it's a miss.

Hira: Isn't it pretty? I agree with Jo about the color of the Author's name font. Why use purple when you could have used green itself? By the way I felt the name was quite intriguing. I don't know...I am on a music high these days (I pretty much watch and read anything with musicians, bands or music inndustry)
Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor | cover love

Jordan: Will I ever say yes? Not this time though, for I don't like this cover. And trust me, ti's not because I'm grumpy. I'm sitting here wrapped up in an orange blanket all warm and cozy. I've got food and I've got tea. I'm in my happy space. But these covers are not  conducive to my remaining in my happy space.
I'll admit that I like the blue, feather-y mask. I like the intricate detailing on it.
If I do pick this up, it'll be for the intriguing title and definitely not for the cover.

Hira: Why Jordy why? Why don't you like any of my cover choices? (*me and Zoe squeals simultaneously) I love the blue mask. And the name. And the font. And the green eyes beneath the mask. Apparently this book has multiple covers depending on the country it's released in (*the all-knowing Zoe supplies while fawning over the blue mask.) Go check out the other covers guys, they are pretty!
Drought by Pam Bachorz | cover love

Jordan: No. An emphatic, absolute no. The colour of the font makes me want to un-see this cover. This is one of those 'almost there but not there because of a dumb element' cover.

Hira: I can literally feel the angst. This is definitely a tear jerker, and therefore my type. I already want to read this and sob desperately into the pillow (we established that I am weird, remember?)  The eye is so pretty...it kinda reminds me of The Host by Stephanie Mayor, remember those (old days of Twilight Obsession?)
I am not a huge fan of the title font, though I don' hate it to that level of Jordan. It feels like the title font ruined the overall aura of the otherwise mysterious cover.

The Shadow Queen by C.J Redwine | cover love

Jordan: Finally, something to write home about. I adore the attention to detail here. The grooves on the lone leaf, the glistening black apple, the dripping black liquid (black blood, perhaps?) and the title carved onto the said apple. And I like the textured effect on the corners of the book. I would definitely pick this up if I see it (and if my pocket has more than a few coins in it).

Hira: This is pretty cool. The 3D effect is awesome. It's a perfect cover in my eyes. And it;s a black apple...(*dark symbolism-my favorite) You have a good eye Jords...no wonder you are so picky about covers.

And the Trees Crept In by Dawn Kurtagich | cover love
And the Trees Crept In by Dawn Kurtagich
Jordan: This is creepy and I like it! I love the iridescent quality to the title font, and how it spans out to cover most of the book. The branches seemingly reaching out for her make it even more eerie looking. This covers renders me speechless in a really good way.

Hira: Usually this the kind of cover I would jump to latch onto, but for some reason I hate it. The font is awesome but I hate how cluttered it all seems-the trees, the girl and everything...its not clean.I would have loved it, if it was just the tress and the title.

Jordan: Most of the covers this time were misses for me. But I really like the two that I raved about, And the Trees Crept In by Dawn Kurtagich and The Shadow Queen by C.J Redwine.

Hira: The Shadow Princess was really good, I agree. I also liked Love in the Time of Global Warming.

Book Nerd Problems #12 | Reader Problems

Hello Peeps, how's everyone doing? Weekend going well? Partying hard or sleeping in? I know, I spent the entire day lazing around in bed....seriously needed the day off after the very busy week.

 Anyway, Book Nerd Problem...Woohoo!
Zoe asked me to write this one today and I just realized why, she knows there is no better person to talk about this problem than me!

The number of times this has happened...OMG, I have seriously lost count. How many people had asked me why I was whimpering or why my eyes were all red...total strangers too. Oh I have to tell this story. This was back when me, Inia, and Zoe were sharing a room...we had just met each other and were not as close as we are now. I was reading this very emotional book in which the main girl dies and I was bawling my eyes out. It was like eight something on a Sunday, and Zoe and Inia were still dead to the world. Then Hope and Jordan knocked on the door, and I open it...tear stained cheeks, red puffy eyes and all. I swear they got a real scare...thought something was really wrong. And then the other two also woke up and they were so pissed when they knew what I was actually crying about. (*Lol, they always have to put up with my broken heart after reading a super angsty book...that's how I know they love me.)

Anyway tell me if you have ever had gone through this. I bet you have...come on go to the comments section, let the words flow....let me hear all about it, I really wanna know!

Cover Love #13

Hello folks...this is me Hira! It seems like ages since I was last here. I hope Zoe and Jordan have not been boring you to death. Who am I kidding...those two have such opposite tastes that you guys probably had loads of fun watching them fight over book covers...lol.

Anyway, I am sorry I was not around much but my first book is in the editing process (Yes! I have a book...can you believe that?!)  and my editor has been kicking my arse. (*Did you know Zoe is a slave driver? I bet you all suspected it). Okay...more about that later, let me focus on Cover Love for now.

This week Inia is going to be my partner in crime as we judge a book by it's cover (I think I am very funny...the others don't). Also a small warning...Most of the covers for this week were chosen by me, so don't judge if you see a pattern (I know my tastes are a bit weird..but hey that's me).

So what are we waiting for....let's dig in!

Hold Me Like a Breadth by Tiffany Schmidth | Cover Love
Hold Me Like a Breadth by Tiffany Schmidth
Hira: Isn't it pretty? Red and black is my favorite combo but you gotta admit that this one is really beautiful. See how the butterfly is breaking off into pieces....it's not very unique but for some reason I can't but be fascinated by it. Also the title, so poetic. If I didn't fall for the cover, I would have fallen for the title, that's sure.  And the tag line...I am so hooked! Definitely going into my reading list.

Inia: Ooooooh the cover art is quite pretty! The autumn colours against the dark background looks great. I'm not really digging the title font though...it's obstructing the beauty of the cover art from showing through fully. But the title is brilliant! The book has a very haunting feel about it with that butterfly evanescing against the iron gate and the alluring title.

This Savage Song by V.E. Schwab | Cover Love

Hira: Zoe would call this a very clean cover, I think. It's very minimalistic but still intricate. I love the font as well as the branch thingy which looks like a rose. Is it a black rose? If it's a black rose, double kudos from me because I am obsessed with black rose! Also the combo of red and black on a white back drop-love it.

Inia: This cover is so basic yet it works. From a distance and for a limited period of time. At first glance, I thought the cover looked cool and elegant but the more I stare at it, the more plain it seems. And it's so....empty? I can't deduce anything from this cover; the genre, what the story might be about, nothing. Also the review on the cover.... how is that helpful?

Black Widow by Margaret Stohl | Cover Love

Hira: Okay, I don't really like this as a cover. But I had two reasons for picking it. That title (I am a Black Widow Baby! *Rita Ora and Iggy Azalea sings in the background*)   And the red head...I love the girl's pose, hair and attitude. A very kickass cover in every sense.

Inia: A spider on your back... this is the stuff of my nightmares *shudder*. Well anyway, the cover is pretty sleek. This looks like a mystery/crime novel. In fact, the aura of mystery surrounding this book is intense. The grey-black colour palate with the splash of red in the title, the byline and the author being secret all adds to the mystique.

Ever So Madly by J.R Gray | Cover Love
Ever So Madly by J.R Gray

Hira: Looks like a very typical romance with a very predictable HEA plot line right? But all of us need a bit of predictability at some point. Looks like the kind of book you pick up when you are in the mood for some fluff and love. Lol...for all I know this could be a heart wrenching story which would make me sob into my pillow for a full day (A girl can hope...we have established that I am weird).
By the way, I love the font and the small explosion thing at the bottom. Also the greenish black backdrop looks nice.

Inia: This has such a pretty colour palette! I can't stop staring at it. I love the pastel hues splotched on the glittery midnight colours and I am mesmerized. I guess the cover is nothing exceptional but the colour scheme more than makes up for the minimalism of the cover art.

The Thousandth Floor by Katharine McGee | Cover Love

Hira: This is Zoe's choice. It took me a solid minute to understand what the picture was. I was like...is it a syringe? No...it's a feather, but no, the shape isn't right. And then I read the title properly, it's a tower and I am an idiot. Black and silver, nice combo. I love the font, but I think the color of it is wrong, it makes it blend too much with the picture.

Inia: Nice title font. I like the black and starry background too. There is nothing much to analyze about the cover. It's clean, well-done and nothing striking.

The Comeback Girl by Katie Price | Cover Love
The Comeback Girl by Katie Price

Hira: Okay I can guess what you are thinking...finally she has put a cover with some colors in it! Yes, and I love this one. I read the synopsis and you guessed right again..it's about a pop singer. I like the whole vibe the book creates...a typical concert scene. I love the shadow play here. Also, I am a huge music fan and is kinda obsessed with the inner workings of the music industry (I can thank One Direction for that), so definitely giving this one a try.

Inia: Too much bling and glitz oh my god! This reminds me of my High School Musical books and since it's written by none other than Katie Price, I bet the novel is indeed very high school like drama filled. I can't tell if the cover is artistic or trashy since my judgement is very much being clouded by the fact that this is Katie Price's book.

Between the Notes by Sharon Huss Roat | Cover Love

Hira: What's with all the poetic titles, this time? It does no look like the kind of book that I would read until someone recommends it to me. It somehow gives the feel of a feel good romance. I love the mix of colors and the white backdrop. It's like a painting on a canvas.

Inia: Pretty design but everything is cluttered and concentrated to a small space and I can't even make out the author's name from it. The cover art has a nice colour scheme though.

Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerry Maniscalco | Cover Love
Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerry Maniscalco

Hira: Woohoo, that is one title, I already want to read it.  And I love the palette, that hue of green is gorgeous. Doesn't the girl look badass by the way? The story seems to be set a 19th century-ish time...or so I think from my detailed scanning of the cover. Love the details, the super imposing down at the bottom is nice. Also the font is certainly my favorite style. A really good cover.

Inia: I like the aquamarine shade against the black background. The title and cover art are both so intriguing and this seems like the type of book I would pick up to read. I'm all for crime thrillers and this looks like a good one.

Hira: Uhohhh, this is difficult...I have too many favorites this time around. But still I think, Hold Me Like a Breath and Stalking Jack the Ripper takes the prize. Come back Girl and This Savage Song takes a close second place.

Inia: You won't believe which cover is my favourite.. it is Ever So Madly! I know... usually this is so not my type of cover but something about it caught my fancy.
